ted pomerantz In March of 1998, Ted Pomerantz and his wife, Ann Councill hosted an organizational meeting of what would later become Habitat for Humanity Perry County. Ted enlisted volunteers interested in serving on the board and on committees. He solicited donations of property and grant funding for our first construction. He laid out the benchmarks and encouraged us all to reach them. He nurtured our fledgling organization out of the nest and into flight. Ted continues to serve on the board, and chairs the Building Committee, and though he no longer holds the title of president, he continues to diligently pursue every avenue to foster the success of HFHPC.

Our affiliate has been blessed by people, willing to uphold their commitments to the organization and to work for its' prosperity. Without a doubt, the ensemble cast of characters synthesizes and performs well together. We have made great progress on a journey that is just beginning.

It is my goal as president, to expand upon the network of resources we have already built. We need more volunteers, more properties, more funding, more of the blessings already bestowed upon us. We would like to undertake two projects this year if resources will allow.

Please consider becoming a part of this mission. Add your name to our mailing list; invite one of our speakers to address your group or organization, complete a skills survey to volunteer your time. We invite you to attend our regular monthly meetings. With your help and the Lord's blessing, we will lift families out of poverty and into decent homes, providing an opportunity for them to grow into all that God intends for them.

Jeannine Matulevich, Past President

WHAT IS HABITAT FOR HUMANITY?
Habitat for Humanity Perry County is a non-denominational Christian Fellowship dedicated to eliminating poverty housing in Perry County by providing safe, decent homes to deserving families who could not otherwise afford home ownership.

WHO GOVERNS THE LOCAL ACTIVITIES OF HABITAT FOR HUMANITY PERRY COUNTY?
Each Habitat affiliate is governed by a local Board of Directors. The Perry County Board includes 15-18 members representing many denominations and occupations. The Board determines the direction and adopts long and short-range plans. Five working committees implement the plans.

HOW ARE LOCAL FAMILIES SELECTED?
A Family Selection committee sets family selection policies and works through the applications in order to choose a recipient. Financial need is primary, but other factors such as ability to pay, size of family, and character are also taken into consideration. Although income must be sufficient to pay off the mortgage, qualifying for any “conventional mortgage” would exclude a person from consideration.
Once selected, a nurturer/friend relates to the new Habitat family through the first six months of home ownership.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS THAT THE COMMUNITY WILL DERIVE FROM HABITAT FOR HUMANITY'S WORK?
j home ownership provides dignity and pride which encourages family stability, educational achievement, and responsible citizenship
j inspiration and hope for others caught in the cycle of poverty and welfare
j gradual community improvement through elimination of unsafe, unsightly housing
j improved property values

HOW YOUR COMPANY OR BUSINESS CAN HELP:
Cash or convertible assets such as shares of stock, bonds, automobiles or trucks, new or used tools and equipment as well as gifts of property, can be used by Habitat to build more houses. Donations of building materials and contributions of time and expertise are also welcome.

WHAT ARE THE INCENTIVES FOR A COMPANY TO CONTRIBUTE TO HABITAT?
Everybody WINS! Working in a partnership with Habitat for Humanity Perry County means everyone wins: the families who are able to build and purchase a Habitat home, because of your generosity, clearly benefit; but so does your company or business. All gifts of cash, assets or materials are fully tax-deductible.
